(20,740 posts)Harvard is the tippy top of the tippy top, and hardly anyone gets in there (only about 3.5% of Harvard applicants are accepted). They turn down people with excellent academic records and test scores all the the time, because they have the luxury of picking and choosing from among the most outstanding students in the whole country and beyond. All a rejection from Harvard means is that you didn't make it into an extremely tiny and elite group,
NYU otoh isn't Ivy League, but it's a highly rated school with very selective admission requirements. Less than 10% of their applicants get in, which isn't a lot. Most parents would be proud to have their kid accepted there. Only the Orange Hellbeast would take having his kid turned down by Harvard as a personal insult and launch a vendetta against the place!
