(98,883 posts)a close relationship with weather underground radical Ayers, and in case you forgot, they went into a frenzy trying to paint Obama as a radical leftist because of the Rev Wright.
What helped president Obama the most in 2008 was the economic implosion that occurred under bush, and mccain choosing palin as his VP. In fact 25% of the population believed that President Obama wasn't a citizen, and was a Muslim with the help of much of the media, especially fox news which has the highest viewership of all that cable/satellite news outlets.
Presidents are NOT elected by popular vote, but by the electoral college, and it is the swing states that determine it, and because of that, and nixon's southern strategy our elections in modern times have been very close by electoral college standards. 2008 was an exception, but that was because of the economic implosion that occurred under bush.
As for Biden's 2020 term, it was a very close election, and that was in spite of trump's mishandling of the pandemic, and the economic mess he left the country in.
The disrespect Biden was afforded his term as President by the press was disgusting, and that was through his entire term. Jake tapper's foaming at the mouth rant against Biden when he was removing America from Afghanistan after the terrorist attack against are troops was probably the most blatant personal disdain against a president that I have seen a so-called reporter exhibit.
As for your assessment that "theres an entire ecosystem of that democrats are losing out on. There are demographics democrats may be at a loss with for another generation if they dont act fast."
Sorry, but that train has left the station. 2000, 2016, and 2024 sealed that one. The Supreme Court is gone for at LEAST a generation. Nothing will change that. Trump or one of his thugs will be in control for at least the next four years. Nothing will change that. That is what happens when all the branches of government is controlled by a draconian regime.
Everyone should have known what the stakes were, but in spite of that someone who tried to overthrow the government, the country elected, and the country will deservedly pay the price for their stupidity for a long time.
Labor split the vote, Latino's split the vote, women didn't come out in the numbers anticipated, and the middle east protesters, especially in those critical swing states, even though trump made it clear what he was going to do, refused to vote for Harris. Everyone of those demographics are going to pay a heavy price for their foolishness, and of course the rest of us will be dragged along for the ride.
Even if we were fortunate enough to win both houses of congress in the midterms, which isn't likely for the Senate, there is no way we can get rid of trump. The votes for impeachment just aren't there.
The damage that can be done in the next four years is incalculable.
When you have billionaire owners of media outlets actively involved editorial content, and censorship if they don't like what is presented, we are probably facing the greatest peril to our democracy since WWII.
The fact that trump won in 2024 in spite of january 6th, makes 2028 very uncertain.
