8. I saw the subject and immediately thought of Skyrim as an alternative.

Combat's pretty straightforward in that; less so if you mainly play an archer or mage (or archer-mage), but if you do that's till radically different from a normal FPS. Also, good lord is it simply a pretty game compared to the typical FPS brownocalypse.

Deus Ex is pretty shooty by comparison, but I like how that one rewards subtler playstyles a lot too aside from the thrice-damned boss battles. Plus it's pretty thinky as far as FPSes go, which is always nice.
