So who are we going hang the moniker, "Mr. November" on?
Playing baseball in November is ridiculous. The season got a late start because of the lockout. They decided to cram an entire season in anyway.
Too many double-headers, and rainouts created even more. Greed, as in everything else, is the cause for all of this.
It wasn't that many years ago (to me anyway) that the first player breached the $1 million a year mark (Nolan Ryan, 1979). Now they're talking about Judge topping $50 million per year. It's a game, dammit! In 1973 I could have purchased the New York Yankees for $10 million. I was actually considering it, but as a 25 year old there was no way a bank was going to float me a loan for $10 million. Steinbrenner and his group ended up buying it. If the Yankees were to be sold today (and I wouldn't put it past the greedy Steinbrenner kids, who did absolutely nothing to earn the money) the price would be well over $2 billion. Not a bad ROI for George Steinbrenner (if he were still alive). 🙄 200 times their investment.I think that would outpace inflation, dont you?
There's just too much greed in any sport today, by players and owners.
