3. We took our neighbors out for dinner

We owed them a few favors, and it was time. They have a favorite Italian place in a quiet part of Düsseldorf near the airport. It is run by two Italian guys, and they know us well, too. They speak fluent German to our friends and my wife, and Italian to me We "italiani" gotta stick together, after all. Of course, I'm no more Italian than Emperor Akihito, but I can speak it, and that's all they care about.

Three of us had a mixed fish grill (cod, salmon, and large shrimp) and salad, where my wife had some spaghetti with fresh sliced truffles, swished around in a half hollowed out huge Parmesan cheese bowl while still hot, and then served on a large plate. No one went home hungry.
