For those who live in upstate New York, those within the range of the Ontario/Quebec border, a band running west to east for hundreds of miles, and as deep of about 60 miles south, will be affected terribly. These are the farmlands, the rural small towns, the small "mom and pop" industries that dot the landscape, these people can ill afford massive jumps in the cost of electricity. They already have been facing a deep economic downturn from the lack of Canadian visitors due to the poor Canadian dollar, places like Plattsburgh, Massena, even the Vermont city of Burlington. The ski resorts, hotels, restaurants, etc, have been suffering economic distress for years, due to the drop off in tourism from Canada.
Now the border population will feel an added burden as they try to make ends meet with higher electricity expenses, which invariably lead to higher prices for everyday needs, food, clothing, housing. It will only stop when they call for their representatives (mostly Republican in Upstate New York) to call on Trump and his clowns to stop this unnecessary, antagonistic, and destructive behavior towards Canada, but mostly towards to American people who voted them in.
