New Hampshire goes mask-free with summer tourism expected to be 'huge' [View all]

The Granite State is now mask-free, with Gov. Chris Sununu telling the Herald that summer tourism will be “huge.”

“We’re the best,” he said of the vaccine rollout. “We’re among the fastest in the country for vaccine distribution.” The Republican governor — floated as a possible U.S. Senate candidate in 2022 — said that’s why he’s dropping New Hampshire’s face-covering edict, but businesses can still require masks if they want.

He said the decision is based purely on analytics and not politics. Deaths and hospitalizations are down up north, with the state averaging 445 new coronavirus cases daily and 130 people currently hospitalized. Three people died due to COVID-19 Thursday.

To date, 23.3% of New Hampshire residents have been fully vaccinated.
