I came here 4 years ago to care for my mother after my father passed. My mother passed recently so other than the family farm I have no ties to the State.
Reasons for leaving?
1) Climate. I find it too humid to work outside on the grove during the day
2) Hurricanes. Been through a couple in the short time I've been here. Wind damage takes for ever to get cleaned up and FPL never takes less than ten days to get the line back up. It took 20 days before I had power back. Liiving off a generator gets old quickly
3) Miami-Dade county. What to say? Traffic, litter, violent crime, general lawlessness, the Cuban Cartel, cost of living.(insurance quoted me was $8,600 per month)
4) Developers. What used to be a nice quiet farm is now surrounded on three sides by development. Speeding card, ATV's...you get the picture.
So...where to next?
Preferably somewhere arid. Back to Fort Worth but New Mexico and Nevada look promising too.
On edit: Tallahassee and the sh**show that it is. J used to think Austin was the corruption capital of America but have to give credit to Florida for giving Texas a run for its money.
