World's biggest American alligator caught by Alabama family goes on display [View all]

The largest American alligator ever caught - which broke a world record - can now be viewed in an Alabama museum.

The mammoth beast, which measured 15 feet and 9 inches long and weighed 1,011.5 pounds, was captured last August by five members of the Stokes family in Mill Creek, Al.com reported.

The Stokes alligator has been mounted and put on display at the Montgomery Zoo's Mann Wildlife Learning Museum.

Keith Francher's alligator earlier held the Alabama state record. That alligator measured 14 feet and 2 inches long, and weighed 838 pounds.
