10. Bil Maher shows how dense he really is

The joke wasn't that Tom Hanks' character, Doug, didn't want to touch a Black person. It was that he reflexively assumed he was being robbed as a Black man approached him.

It was also a direct rehash from Doug's first Black Jeopardy appearance in 2016. The author was correct in that it was a lazy turn for the sketch and the sight gag -- my understanding is that Hanks improvised the reaction the first time around -- didn't stick the landing on re-use because it was no surprise.

Also, if Maher had familiarity with the original Doug appearance he would have known its underlying theme: most of those who are middle class and below have far more in common than we assume and being fractured along ethnic lines only keeps us from realizing our true power. If Maher's point in all his posturing and pontificating is truly what he claims, he would like that.
