In reply to the discussion: Jake Tapper's Biden Book Is Collapsing [View all]thucythucy
(8,881 posts)The rise and continued success of Donald Trump is only possible among an electorate that relies on social media for its "facts."
People now openly and proudly declare that they don't know how to write, and rely on computer programs to do their writing for them. An entire industry has sprung up to help people who haven't been taught how to write, or how to read anything more substantial than a page or two of print, or in fact to think for themselves. And Trump's attack on higher education, the right's disdain for and assault on public education in all its aspects is an integral part of the reactionary agenda.
George Orwell warned us almost a century ago that poor writing is indicative of and leads to poor thinking. And the ability to write is directly related to a person's reading habits.
Or, as Trump famously declared, "I love uneducated voters."
