Low cost airlines will 'launch standing only seats in 2026 after passing safety evaluations' [View all]

It’s a money-saving move that’s sure to divide holidaymakers – but several budget airlines will reportedly introduce standing-only seating options next year.

According to reports, including @entrepreneurshipquote on Instagram, the bike-style padded seats – which allow passengers to lean at an angle without completely sitting down – have now met regulation requirements and passed safety assessments.

These seats will increase passenger capacity by 20 per cent – and will apparently come into service in 2026 on flights up to two hours long.

The upright seating is called Skyrider 2.0 and was unveiled by manufacturer Aviointeriors at the Aircraft Interiors Expo 2018 in Hamburg.

Of course one of the proponents is Ryanair. Those images from the 50's of luxury travel in jets are long gone. Now, we're just cattle.
