Catalist - What happened in 2024

Last edited Thu May 22, 2025, 09:25 AM - Edit history (1)

Catalist is a data and analytics firm that works exclusively with Democratic and progressive organizations. Founded in 2006, it provides data and technology to help these organizations understand and engage with voters. (from google)

For political wonks the publishing of the voting demographics in the spring following an election is a big deal. Catalist is much more accurate than any exit polling, and often shows up where exits are wrong. There are others such as Pew that are also good, but Catalist drills down into the numbers using precinct level returns to get what is considered THE most accurate and extremely detailed take on who voted.

Often here and other places I read comments about this group or that group supporting one candidate or another, and actually they didn't, people are relying on stereotypes from decades ago. In order to win elections we need to know who voted for our candidates and who didn't.

Edit, I'm adding the crosstabs which I just saw today. They are devastating. The loss of black and Latino voters from 2012 is crazy. Especially working class people of color.
