They preferred instead to converse with normal people.

2. One report said he had to stop and take a deep breath after every sentnce.

That’s heart failure. Oxygen is not reaching tissues due to inadequate circulation, and carbon dioxide is building up in his bloodstream due to inadequate circulation making the oxygen deficit in his body worse.
