(32,439 posts)It happened earlier today to Atlanta. Tied game, bases loaded.
That sucks.

(62,577 posts)Seattle fans are no stranger to losing to game officials calls.
Besides, it's the rules, follow them.

(9,963 posts)...so it's easy for the pitcher and batter to see.
Who knows, maybe they'll lengthen it for the postseason. ?

(62,577 posts)the one's in the stadium the M's played at are very large, I'm thinking at least 2 feet high.

(37,781 posts)So far, so good. It *does* speed up the game.
Wonder if theyll keep that rule for the postseason.

(742 posts)A 6-6 tie in a meaningless spring training game is the best place to make a rules point. No one on either team will forget it.
The rules are the rules - just ask Fred Merkle!

(32,439 posts)I would think you'd hate to see a critical game end on a technicality as much as I. It's not in keeping with the spirit of the game as it's been played for 122 years.
ProfessorGAC
(73,754 posts)...do we blame the rule?
No, we think the pitcher did a boneheaded play.
Players have adjusted to rules changes since 1876. They'll just have to adjust to this one.
If they eliminate all the time-wasting, your scenario never even comes up.
All they have to do is pick up the pace.
They've been asked & asked but they refused to cooperate. Now, they have to make the adjustment.
Auggie
(32,439 posts)The pace can be picked up without rigidly timing play. It should be at the discretion of the umpire.
ProfessorGAC
(73,754 posts)The umpires can't even agree on how to enforce the strike zone!

(32,439 posts)But it works.
