Related: About this forumI have been diagnosed with breast cancer (Invasive Lobular Carcenoma)
The good news is that it was caught early and there are no indications that it has spread. I met with an oncologist today, and she said we would wait until after surgery to decide on radiation and chemotherapy. She did start me on hormone therapy.
I feel ok both physically and emotionally. My main concern is for my family: my daughter and granddaughters who now have another close family member with cancer, and also my older sister/housemate who depends on me for a lot of assistance and who is undergoing testing for possible multiple myeloma. My oldest sister died in March from pancreatic cancer; there is simply a limit to how much we can deal with so close together.
In recent months, I have been dealing with dramatic changes to my vision due to macular degeneration. Tbh, I have been far more upset about my vision loss that I am with the cancer diagnosis. That may change when a surgeon starts working on me, but for now, I am very optimistic.

(95,028 posts)I was cancer-free after surgery, but protocol still called for both chemo and radiation. Humor helped me a lot - mine and my doctors and nurses.
Feel what you feel. Don't let anyone tell you that you need to feel anything otherwise.
Do be good to yourself. It's not selfish to be centered on your own well-being now.

(26,977 posts)was in her last days with ovarian cancer, my sisters and I were with her when she commented on something only she could see, and we started laughing. We quit quickly and the room was quiet. She said quite softly, "It is so much easier when you girls laugh." I will never forget that.

(92,180 posts)It sounds like you are in good hands with your oncologist and I like her attitude...and yours. That is a good thing.
I do understand your concern about your daughter and grandchildren, it is hard for them, I know. When we came to say goodbye to my brother in law my nieces kids were pretty young. I sat at the kitchen table with them and we colored lots of pictures for their granddad. Your great niece's are older but having lost one of their great-aunts is still a hard loss for them
Also there is your sister that depends on you and as hard as it is this time is about you.
Love and hugs to you my dear. Please let us know if we can help in any way.
Love you.

(26,977 posts)is wet. I get shots in both eyes and have had improvement in both. The latest change occurred suddenly in my dry eye and it left me almost blind. I have regained most of my distance vision, but I can only read with both large fonts + a magnifying glass, and even then I have to strain to pull out the words. AMD is difficult to deal with.
