Anybody watching season 3 of "The Diplomat"?
I watched the first two seasons so I figure I'll have to see what happens. I watched the first episode, which was petty good. The writing is decent as is the storyline. But I just find all the leading characters unlikable. There's just something irritating about all of them. They're so self serving and full of themselves. Anyone else feel this way?

(3,951 posts)the hell we don't have to wait a year for season 4. Quite the intriguing Season 3 finale.
It's like the old joke about not buying green bananas...so, hurray up kiddos, that conveyor belt ain't slowin' down and Chronos is in charge.

(8,967 posts)the characters are definitely self-serving and full of themselves (sounds strangely familiar). Its a fun romp through the hallowed halls of diplomacy. For me, it is pure entertainment.
I looked forward to this new season and had enjoyed seeing the behind the scenes work that goes on with faces we rarely get to see, let alone know as people with their own lives and issues. The main characters' marriage was also interesting as they had different ambitions and styles yet came together because of their connection that seemed to thread through all the weaknesses, mistakes, and arguments. They also supported each other in their unconventional marriage and careers.
This season seems to want to show them as more shallow. They seem to be more exploitative, as well, using international issues to further their own objectives with little regard for others.

(6,070 posts)Way behind you having just seen two or three of season 1 so far. I dont like the characters but the story is engaging. I think that is the idea havimg troubled self-serving folks trying to do some good within such a challenging situation.

(29,979 posts)I like to pretend those 3 or 4 people are really in charge of the Western world unlike we have now. The main character seems both idealistic and compromised by the institution she works for. Very different than the kind of character she portrayed in The Americans though it is a similar kind of role. The only one I don't really trust is Hal and there is a major cliffhanger at the end of season 3 so can't wait for season 4 to come out.

(27,226 posts)always looks like crap. My wife says it's a running gag on the show, but I don't recall anyone mentioning it to her.

(4,499 posts)It was intentional so people would think the SS agent was her if they wanted to take a shot at her.
My guess is it might be an inside joke..
Stemming from the kerfuffle Keri Russell caused on her show Felicity between producers and WB network executives over her haircut.
Keri Russell gives one version of it here..

(33,311 posts)but I absolutely love Season 3. Self serving and egotistical? Of course. Aren't most "executives?"
