"Finish the job": Trump says Israel must "get rid" of Hamas

Barak Ravid

President Trump signaled on Friday that after the breakdown in negotiations for a Gaza ceasefire and hostage deal, he believes Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu should escalate the war in order to "get rid" of Hamas.

Why it matters: The crisis in the negotiations comes as the humanitarian situation grows increasingly catastrophic, with more and more reports from the UN and other agencies of Palestinians dying of starvation.

Trump made the comments after a phone call with Netanyahu.
What he's saying: "Hamas didn't really want to make a deal. I think they want to die and it's very bad. It got to a point where you have to finish the job."

Trump added that the Israelis "are gonna have to fight and they are gonna have to clean it up — you will have to get rid [of Hamas]," Trump told reporters before departing for a trip to Scotland.

hoards food so they can easily identify Hamas because their ribs aren't showing and their faces are not sunken? Then they can pick them off?

Netanyahu is trying to achieve his plan to remove as many Palestinians from life support as possible.

You could say he is winning.

Ongoing: Palestinians in West Bank forcibly transferred under cover of Gaza war (38 communities as of 19 July 25)

Israel’s regime of apartheid and occupation is inextricably bound up in human rights violations. B’Tselem strives to end this regime, as that is the only way forward to a future in which human rights, democracy, liberty and equality are ensured to all people, both Palestinian and Israeli, living between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea.

Human beings are not bargaining chips – release the captives now

According to the most recent information, at least 222 people kidnapped in Hamas’ attack on Israel on 7 October 2023, including soldiers and foreign nationals, are currently being held in the Gaza Strip. Among them are at least 30 babies, children and teenagers under 18, between 10 and 20 people over sixty, and individuals with medical conditions, injuries or disabilities. With dozens still missing since the attack, the number of captives is likely higher.

...the "other" side of Israel, that not many people know about. Including sadly here on DU.

It is no doubt viewed as "anti-semitic" by Israel's right and maybe now even the shrinking centre. Simply because it shines a light on what Israel would like to keep hidden.

Once you have perused their site and work, and that of other human rights groups, there is no going back and you can never say you didn't know. Those that still defend Israel, they KNOW, but have made their bargain.

9. I appreciate the sarcasm. It's absurd, isn't it? But the "Hamas hoards/steals food" narrative should not be accepted.

It is the pretext that Israel has been using to defend the creation of GHF and the siege/total blockade of aid for nearly 5 months beginning on March 2nd. In fact it has used this same pretext throughout the "war" to periodically starve people.

This claim/pretext has been contradicted and denied by all the aid agencies on the ground, including the UN/WFP etc. Now there is a leaked report by USAID that backs up the UN's claims. There is no systematic stealing of aid (no doubt there is some, they have to eat too).

But regardless, it is absolutely insane to starve two million people because you are trying to starve out your enemy. Aside from the moral abyss, it's also a war crime.

I think that it's been a very useful pretext/talking point for Israel to achieve the no-longer-hidden war goals of getting rid of Gaza's people and resettling Gaza with Israelis. As one Israeli Minister said recently "Gaza will be Jewish". There may be Trump resorts, no doubt - after all, this is a partnership between Trump and Netanyahu and both will benefit. The Palestinian people are just flies to be swatted away.

The fastest route to ethnic cleansing is controlling food - he who controls that, rules over the people. They can then be convinced to do anything, including committing their own ethnic cleansing - in order to live.

It's Machiavellian and it is genocide.
