Greenland and the EU pulled a fast one on Trump when the Danish protectorate, along with the rest of the EU nations, signed a mineral deal granting the Union exclusive rights to mining resources. Baby man gets angry when everybody laughs at him.

President Donald Trump threatened to levy 50% tariffs on goods from member nations of the European Union after Greenland gave a Danish-French mining company a 30-year mining permit.

The permit will allow the group to extract a rock that could assist with aluminum production in a climate friendly way. The deal was signed on Wednesday, just two days before Trump posted to social media.

Trump expressed an interest in buying the nation earlier this year. The island contains a wealth of minerals, oil and natural gas making it a desirable frontier of natural resources.

“We need Greenland very badly,” declared President Donald Trump, emphasizing the geostrategic significance of the Arctic. The statement is a reflection of the geostrategic race for the mineral resources of Greenland, in particular its highly prospective anorthosite deposits, a rock that is a repository of much of green aluminum mining. The recent expiry of the 30-year concession awarded to Greenland Anorthosite Mining (GAM) is a new direction for Greenland’s resource policy with European partners receiving preference over American interests.

Maybe if Trump weren't trying so hard to kill the biosphere, they would get a little more of the pie. You know he is seething and will seek more retribution than just crashing the economy with that statement on tariffs.

The French and Danish-backed GAM project, also supported by state funds from Denmark and Greenland, looks to begin five years from now. Naaja Nathanielsen, the Mineral Resources Minister in Greenland, was bullish, saying, “My hope is that the mine will be operational in five years.” To succeed with the project would set Greenland up as a low-impact raw materials specialist, which happens to be a European green industry objective.

Environmental issues also create mining opportunities difficult. The Greenlanders are concerned about the environmental hazards of large-scale operation. Low temperature and low salinity of the waters of Greenland slow down environmental regeneration, and the effect of mining is gradual. But strategic location presents special opportunities. As melting Arctic sea ice opens up new shipping lanes, Greenland becomes a centerpiece of the administration of these new routes, increasing its geopolitical role.

In light of this background, the GAM project is an experiment trial of whether or not there can be larger industrial schemes implemented in Greenland without compromising environmental concerns and indigenous interests. Public investment fund entry by both Denmark and Greenland shows a hybrid model: foreign expertise imported but maintained by having local players provide economic payback and ownership.

"have led to a Trade Deficit with the U.S. of more than $250,000,000 a year"

that's 1/4 of $1 billion, a trivial amount compared to the U.S. economy. Apparently manbaby can't do math. A quick Google search says $235.6 billion in 2024, or about 1,000 times as large.
