1. Renting a small apartment in a low cost area?

That is what I am planning. Very little furniture of the type that can be taken out to the dumpster if I need to move.

Houses need maintenance and property taxes
RVs need maintenance and there are usually fees associated with parking them and using the services

I would be curious in what you find out. I grew up in rentals (apartments at first and eventually houses). I have owned four houses over the last 30+ years. I am sure that I am in my last owned house. My mom, who needs a live in now, has a 3 bedroom house just full of stuff. I don't plan to be that person.

Everyone looks at me as if I am crazy when I talk about selling the house after my pets are gone (they are 14 (dog), 13 (dog), and 12 (cat)). I would live with my mom and help take care of her if I lost my job. After she moves to an assisted care facility or passes on, then I would sell the house and move to an apartment.

I don't know of any in Illinois or Wisconsin, my first 2 options.

This does not appeal to many people but, I belong to a nudist club that has site to put RV and tiny homes on. The space rent is $600 per month.

Mostly older people live there. They sell their house, by a Park Model mobile home and put it on a site.

Like I said it isn't for everyone but it is cheap living. Shopping and restaurants are less than a mile away.

I like the upbeat, cheerful attitude of this woman. Perhaps a smaller solution than you are looking for?

for me to become less of an old fart then maybe we should consider doing the same, though the rig would have to be a wee bit larger.
