This is a serious question

Last edited Sun Mar 2, 2025, 12:05 AM - Edit history (1)

Am I wrong in suggesting that the fastest way for dump and musk to lose power is for the economy to tank?
We need a sick-out one day a month, a 3 month long non-necessity purchase embargo and to tell the word as loudly as we can that that's exactly what we're doing!
We can take our power back by exerting it through our choices.

I want to apologize for certainly sounding like I was pushing for the economy to tank. That was not my intention as I was writing, but clearly the words I chose said exactly that. Please forgive such a bumbling amateurish error in words.
What I wanted to suggest was that we have our power of the purse which we can in fact control who we choose to do business with and how.
I've believed for many years now that whenever I believe that I'm absolutely right, I am guaranteed to be absolutely wrong.
I'm now clearly ready to be wrong.
Thank you for your patience and engagement in spite of myself

Or even stopping all unnecessary spending until he gets out but

His goal is to tank the economy, it won’t take away his power . More than likely the upheaval of an actual recession/ depression will always the chaos he wants to cease permanent power.

Last month’s numbers showed a big contraction already, over 3% and that was before the no shopping day

It depends on what is meant by ‘lose power.’

Removal from office via the 25th Amendment or the impeachment process notwithstanding, we’re stuck with Trump until 2029, regardless the condition of the economy.

Otherwise, a severe recession might undermine the Trump agenda, causing Trump to lose the support of Congressional Republicans, or Republicans losing one or both Houses of Congress.

A bad economy might force Musk out as an ‘advisor.’

But we shouldn’t be wishing for an economic downturn or taking action to cause a downturn – it’s the reprehensible right that wants to see the American people suffer for some perceived partisan gain; that’s not who we are as Democrats, we’re better than that.

let me start there.
There's a huge difference between tanking our economy, which is what the right wants and us as citizens refusing to support their version of it.
Refusing to buttress their economy with my extravagant purchase seems an act of protest that is ong overdue.
Please remember the sacrifices Americans made during WWII to stop exactly this.

Exploitation of labor and resources is the source of their power. Fighting for workers and the environment is the solution.

7. I don't think tanking our economy is good for anyone. That would affect the most venerable people

not the wealthy. The best we can do now is to speak up to our elected Senators and Representatives and let them know that we expect them to stand up to Trump and his merry band of assholes. We need to focus on the 26 elections and those that happen before then at all levels. Let them know, especially the Republicans that we will not support them if they continue to ignore his anti-American policies.

If we can survive the next 4 years, I think a lot of this will change, hopefully we have not alienated the rest of the world by them.

Hard for me to believe this is the nation we have become, it is time for people to stop ignoring this by not voting - we have a binary choice when it comes to our elections - these 3rd party and boycott votes are dumb and meaningless.

People cheering for unemployment, foreclosures, evictions, homelessness, hunger and poverty. Retirement accounts wiped out.

Can't believe that is what people are hoping happens to others.

No, a collapsing economy will not bring down MAGA. The opposite may be true.

And, no, you should not be hoping for that. Millions would suffer.

And, no, a "non-necessity purchase embargo" is not a good idea. it is already the reality for millions of people who have no discretionary income.

And, no, we can't take our power back by exerting it through our choices. You can't shop your way to social justice.

I've been wrong on many many things in my life, I'm willing to be wrong here too. I'm not there yet.
Thank you for the frank and honest exchange and I'll see you in a couple of hours.

I don’t want to see the economy crash, but I think that is where Trump is heading.

I am spending on conserving and improving health, preventive medicine including vaccine and boosters
I am spending on building a 3 month food supply and necessary goods and first aid/over the counter health items

If Trump doesn’t crash our economy, I can share these staples with people in need because he is deliberately trying to hurt low income and disabled people of all ages.

I also am spending on well-made, durable clothing also, some second hand.

I think spending on good information services and communication services and devices is useful
I don’t know what will happen to our economy because of the craziness of our current situation-inflation, recession, stagflation, anything is possible

I don’t think my frugality will hurt our economy, but it can help me minimize anxiety and stay active in opposition.

I don't want to crash our economy or promote unnecessary pain. I want to feel empowered.
I am that person in need, I just don't want to be victimized.
I want to choose who to support with my very very limited resources and I believe I can do that and further, that WE can do that collectively not to cause pain, but to avoid the despair that's knocking on most doors today.
I was born to American parents in Heidelberg Germany and came to live here 7-4-76. I fee honored to be an American.
What made America great is the absolute sacrifices that were made to stop Hitler etc in WWII.
What are we willing to sacrifice today? It feels like people are still in denial about how truly bad this is going to get, and very soon at that.

I chronicle it every day.

But I believe that focused actions, such as boycotting Target in favor of progressive companies and, heavens, shopping at thrift stores! will be effective and easy to see.

Also, printing little copies of my FAFO flags/placards and dropping them off as you leave places, may help.
