Boosting WiFi signal with common household items

I've had one horrendous month of March in the WiFi department. Once I stabilized the signal I tried to boost it. Elevated the router on a 6" box, put an inverted mylar potato chip bag behind it. I got a 22% signal boost! Even at these low speeds this is lightning improvement. And I've not even begun any real innovation like curved deflectors. Found a couple vids on the subject.
