Former Lake Stevens City Council member sworn in to fill vacant position
LAKE STEVENS Kurt Hilt became the newest member of the Lake Stevens City Council on Tuesday, filling a position of a council member who died suddenly on May 26.
Lake Stevens Mayor Brett Gailey led the swearing-in process for Hilt who was appointed on June 24. He replaces Marcus Tageant, and will serve until the end of 2025.
Hilt, who worked as a firefighter and paramedic for South County Fire, served as a Lake Stevens City Council member from 2016 to 2020. In November 2019, Gailey defeated Hilt by 544 votes to become the citys first full-time mayor. Hilt was also a board member of the Washington State Board of Health and the Snohomish Health District.
After a time of mourning, the council started reviewing applications for a new temporary City Council member. An election could not take place because the filing period had passed.
