Seattle's shrinking job market could be a 'harbinger of something quite serious'

The Puget Sound region’s job market is shrinking as economic uncertainty looms over employers.

The Seattle-Bellevue area has seen 9,300 non-farm jobs disappear so far this year, according to data from the Washington state Employment Security Department.

“Businesses hate uncertainty, so do financial markets,” Seattle University economics professor Brian Kelly told the Business Journal. "The uncertainty is bound to be having an impact.”

Last month, President Donald Trump announced sweeping tariffs on goods imported to the U.S., in an attempt to close a gaping trade deficit. However, the levies threatened decades-long trade relations and supply chain operations.
