Lumen Field is an unlikely Super Bowl site -- but don't blame it on the rain
Next summer, Lumen Field will be one of a select few host sites for FIFA World Cup matches, the most popular sporting event on the planet.
But could the 23-year-old venue host a Super Bowl one day? Don't hold your breath, says a former NFL executive.
The reason has little to do with the open-air stadium and Seattle's wet winters or a lack of hotel capacity.
"Truthfully, it's about a host committee. The cities that get Super Bowls have very well-organized host committees that are well funded," said Lance Lopes, speaking Wednesday at a breakfast hosted by the Washington chapter of NAIOP. "It costs a lot of money to recruit a Super Bowl. Cities like Miami and New Orleans are absolute pros at it. They have massive budgets. They go out and they do all the things they need to do to talk to the owners.

I'm a Seahawks season ticket holder but from what Lopes describes I'm not sure a Super Bowl provides a good return on investment.
