Lynnwood appoints first municipal court commissioner
EVERETT The city of Lynnwood announced Sunday the appointment of Robert Grant as the citys first-ever municipal court commissioner.
In 2024, the City Council approved the new position to address the courts rising caseload. That year, the court saw nearly 67,000 cases and conducted more than 18,000 hearings. Lynnwood Municipal Court handles infractions, misdemeanors and gross misdemeanors within city limits.
Lynnwood Municipal Court Judge Valerie Bouffiou appointed Grant. Kenneth Cowsert, a retired Snohomish County Superior Court judge, swore Grant in at a private ceremony last month.
Grant started his legal career as Cowserts law clerk. He later served as a deputy prosecutor in Snohomish County, where he handled felony cases including child sex abuse, arson and murder. He then worked as an assistant attorney general in the state attorney generals office, with a focus on environmental law. Since 2016, he has served as a judge pro tempore at municipal courts in Edmonds, Everett and Lynnwood and Snohomish County District Court.
