State declines to investigate campaign complaint against Oregon rep (R)

The Oregon Secretary of State’s office has declined to investigate an elections complaint filed against state Rep. Jami Cate, R-Lebanon, a department spokesperson said May 1.

The complaint, filed to the agency's elections division on April 20 by Cottage Grove resident Paul Carbough, alleged Cate was using her consulting business and her position with a political action committee to funnel campaign donations.

The Secretary of State’s office did not say why it declined to investigate the complaint.

Cate is running against former Santa Rosa, California, city councilor Jack Tibbetts and Springfield school board member Nicole De Graff for the Republican nomination for Senate District 6 in the May 19 election. Sierrah Williams is the lone Democrat running for her party’s nomination for the district.
