Jefferson County Clerk says election day issues have been fixed ahead of primary

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — After technical issues caused long lines and delays at Jefferson County polling locations in recent elections, county officials say fixes are now in place ahead of Election Day.

Jefferson County Clerk David Yates said the problems that slowed voter check-in in past elections have been addressed, with the goal of ensuring a smooth process across the county.

In previous elections, voter check-in, which typically takes about 45 seconds, sometimes stretched to nearly six minutes, creating backups at polling places.

Yates said the delays happened when voting machines were processing large downloads from early voting data at the same time voters were trying to check in. In the last election, about 38% of voters cast ballots early, resulting in roughly 100,000 downloads.
