IA-SD16: Iowa Democrats nominate Renee Hardman for Senate District 16 special election

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa — The Iowa Democratic Party and precinct committees of Iowa Senate District 16 nominated Renee Hardman for the seat formerly held by Claire Celsi, who died Oct. 6.

A special election to fill the seat — which represents West Des Moines, Windsor Heights and Clive — is scheduled for Dec. 30.

Hardman currently serves as West Des Moines Mayor Pro Tem and CEO of Lutheran Services of Iowa, one of the state's largest nonprofits. She has also held executive-level roles at Broadlawns Medical Center, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Iowa and Bankers Trust.

Hardman said her focus in the Iowa Senate would be on expanding job opportunities, increasing wages and increasing the affordability of housing and childcare, according to a press release from Iowa Senate Democrats.
