Davenport 3rd Ward alderperson will not seek re-election: Letter to constituents
Davenport Third Ward Alderperson Marion Meginnis will not seek re-election, according to a letter she sent constituents late Monday.
Tonight, I am sharing news that I want you to be the first to receive, she says in the letter. I will not seek reelection as your 3rd Ward alderperson in the Fall 2025 elections. My city council service to you and our ward will end on December 31, 2025.
Meginnis continues: Eight years ago, with the resignation of the former 3rd Ward representative, Davenport announced a special election to fill the seat for the rest of the year, with a June primary and a July election in which I was elected. Beginning in Fall 2017, 3rd Ward voters have reelected me to serve four successive two-year terms.
She is announcing that she will not seek re-election before official filing begins because I want to give potential candidates time to make thoughtful decisions about running. More importantly, I want to allow you, the voters of 3rd Ward, time to seriously evaluate those who will offer themselves as an option. This will be your call.
