It's still there, hasn't been removed. But voters in the city did vote to close it to car traffic and make it bike/pedestrian/skater friendly, and the losers are sore and trying to undo the election result. Personally, I liked it as a highway (little traffic most of the time, great views) but since I don't live in The City I don't get a vote.
