They weren't yet officially The Guess Who yet.
The name came from a marketing stunt that stuck, so they changed the band name because that's whatever knew them as.
Burton started singing some lead vocals from the moment he came in, but was brought in for piano & organ.
He took over on lead full time when Chad Allan left the band (or was forced out, depending on whose side of the story you believe.)
This is Chad singing on this song. He was nowhere close to the singer Burton was.
