I wasn’t much into pop music in that day, but I remember hearing this song everywhere before hearing Borderline or Lucky Star, and although I watched the videos (purely for research, you understand), Madonna seemed like an ersatz avant-garde knockoff of Cyndi Lauper, albeit with a decidedly more slutty persona.

I love this video with her and Captain Lou Albanno. I remember watching a wresting show with my son when he was small and she appeared with Captain Lou, only he had safety pins all over his face. She was so unique and such a trend setter.

And both times, the band were killers.
