So, something I buy often at Costco finally came down in it's regular price, but there's a catch!
For YEARS you could buy 2 * 6 bagels (mix and match) at Costco for $5.99 ($.50 each), which was a pretty great deal. Suddenly, recently, that same arrangement became a $7.99 purchase ($.67 each). Not nearly as good a deal, frankly
Last night we were there and discovered they've reconfigured their bags to 8 packs, for $4.99 (with no 2-fer deal). Doing the math in the store there, I thought, wow, finally something came down in price for once since IQ47 for ONCE. STILL greatly elevated at $5 for 8 ($.63 each), but slightly less bad as $8 for 12.
Then when I got home it hit me ... for 4 measly cents per bagel, you gave up the ability to get 2 different KINDS of bagels! I mean, you still COULD, but then you'd have 16 instead of 12, and you're stuck spending $10 instead of $8 (or $6, pre-47) to do so. And even 12 is quite a lot of bagels for our household.
So, in reality, they actually reckoned a way to jack the total cost to any consumer who would like 2 different kinds of Costco bagels, while giving those who really only eat one kind a very slight break from their newly elevated prices. BOOOO!!!
