Worked at s high end shoe store all through college. Got my shoes at cost. I had so many Italian shoes it's not funny. And boots, don't even get me started.

Eastland and Clark's for me.

When we were travelling around Europe, over the years, I always made it a point to visit the lot stores in various cities.

I knew it was bad when the folks at the store in Venice remembered me and the shoes I’ve purchased over the years (before they implemented a CRM data system!) jeeze…

Good time… good times…

(Still have many of them)

I always remembered my customers. Back then we spent a lot of time finding what they wanted and the best fit. So we talked a lot and got to know people.

About appearance as well as service and function.
This would have been in the Iron Age maybe at the beginning of the Roman empire.
