Kittens, 9 days old.

We took in three kittens, all siblings and around 4 months old. One turned out to be pregnant. We got the other two siblings (Clyde/female and Bud/male will) spayed and neutered. The new mommy will go asap.

Her name is Skeeter and she's a good mommy - especially for one so young. I bought formula and bottles for the just in case, but she has really embraced the role.

Black cats are hard to adopt out, so we will probably keep them. People can be stupid and cruel about black cats. Most likely will keep the gray one too.

I, my brother, and my mother have always adopted black cats for this reason.

It’s a special time for you, having those adorable fur balls around. 😍. ❤️

She opted to hide away in the closet of a spare bedroom no one ever uses to have them. They were feral kittens before we got them. Still are in some ways. We cleared the closet out to give her more room. I ordered a kitten playpen for when they reach 3 weeks old. I won't let them free roam unattended until they are 8 weeks old. Big old house, too many places to hide.

Thank you for yours for adopting black cats.

One I adopted when my uncle died, one must have gotten away from a neighbor when she moved and the last one and only kitten I found in a supermarket parking lot one night on my way home. He was extremely difficult to catch, I don't think I could have done it without the help of a guy who worked in the store and his wife who'd come to pick him up, they were great! And my vet told me he was only about 7 weeks old... and he grew up to be one beautiful cat!

We've "decorated" our house to best suit them and their needs. The living room became a large room with beds, toys, and climbing trees. The humans have smaller spaces, but we don't mind.

It can be a pain in the ass, but I love watching them be themselves. Lot of work and money but so worth it.

He even liked the lab rat I brought home from my Experimental Psych course in college - he was a very smart rat and I couldn't bear to see him turned over to the biology lab. And growing up I also had a pet mouse - Franklin D. Roosevelt - Frank for short - and when I went away to summer camp my grandmother mouse-sat for me, she gave him a blueberry every morning when she had her cereal and took the cutest picture for me.

So my cats were rescue, too, my cousin called me in tears after my uncle died since he had two dogs and two cats and her husband (at the time) wouldn't let her have the cats since they already had three. And my uncle's unpleasant second wife was just going to drop them off at some shelter. So I was happy to take them, and she drove from her home in Connecticut to my uncle's in New Jersey and brought them home to me in Northern New York. They got along fine with my two dogs, especially the black one who is still the smartest and friendliest cat I've ever known, besides being one beautiful cat.

Barnaby, my rat, was very smart as I said. I needed to pick a "B" name for him since he got me a B in a pretty tough course. When the class had to choose their rats, I picked the calmest one and it certainly paid off for both of us. All I had to do was teach him to press a certain lever three times to get a drink, nothing abusive.

the science teacher had a white mouse in the classroom we named Felicia. Every time we went to class we took her out and passed her around. We would also put her in our desks and sometimes just at the wrong moment she would stick her head up the old inkwell hole on the desk right when he was looking. Whoops - back to her cage.

Over the years we had dogs, cats, Guinea pigs, hamsters, a snake, a frog, and a baby crow nursed back to health who loved my mother (besides food she gave him shiny things) and he loved to sit on her head.

Like you I think my mother never knew what I might bring home. Love your stories!!

Poor mom, so young to be having kittens.

Thank you for taking them in and caring for them! I would love to take the black ones but the restrictions at my current living place won't let me have a cat unless they've been mutilated by declawing. I'll go to the rescue and see if I can find some poor baby with that affliction later this year.

Looked it up, kittens CAN get pregnant as young as 4 months old.

I feel so sorry for your little one. I'm glad she has you to care for her. Let us know how the young kitty does.

I recently adopted 2 cats; a Black and an Orange Tabby, They both are between 5-6 years and are the most loving cats I have ever had.

All the best to you and your new Cat Family.

That is the human equivalent of about 6 years of age.

Early in my nursing career, I took care of 2 premie babies whose mothers were each only 13. I arrived for my 3-11 shift one afternoon to see one of these young moms sitting in one of the nursery rocking chairs, holding her baby in one hand and arm, and sucking her own thumb on the opposite hand. This was in 1974, and I can still see that image in my mind's eye as clearly as the day it happened.

I hope Skeeter gets to enjoy being a kitten once her precious babies are weaned.

I'd no doubt be sorely tempted to keep all 5.

Skeeter takes time out of being a mother to play with her siblings. They romp like kittens should. Her siblings also sit with her in the basket, all spooning each other and her kittens. They are a tight little sibling group.

And yes, a very sad story. I've often wished that human beings did not become fertile until at least age 25.

Good on you for keeping the black ones. I've had several black cats, and when adopting, I always ask for a black one because I know they often don't get adopted. I've almost always had at least one black cat.
