(56,629 posts)many are low cost or free, but they don't cover much until the end of the year or if you end up with expensive scripts

(3,242 posts)shop for a new Part D plan every year during open enrollment. I had a Part D plan that was really low cost for a couple years and then jumped up by a factor of ten. I suspect they lure you in with low prices and then hope you wont shop around as they boost the costs.
This last December I discovered you can go to the Medicare website which has a search function to compare plans in your area. It will show you the cost of your prescriptions under each plan, as well as the premium. But youll have to wait till the end of the year now.

(22,727 posts)you might get in touch with someone there. One of my friends got Medicare last year, and she got a lot a help from her dr. office and the place she retired from. At least they helped her get in touch with people who could get her through the process.
People who aren't on Medicare are getting hit with price raises. I don't know what people are going to do.
