Are there folks here in DU land that listen to True Crime Podcasts?

I've pulled away from watching most of the political shows and I'm home a lot more (recently retired but am still substitute teaching when I can). I'm following several different cases that are almost unbelievable.

I've always been very interested in courtroom dramas (T.V. shows, movies). I've always been interested in the Law.

If anyone is keeping up with the Idaho student killings and Bryan Kohberger case, I have a question.

Thank you!

If the death penalty is taken off the table does that mean Kohberger goes straight to prison?

It appears that the judge in this case has ruled pre-trial that the death penalty is on the table.
So that decision has been made?

The trial is in Aug 2025, so BK has not been found guilty of anything, nor has he been sentenced.
Even if the DP is taken off the table, BK still has to undergo a trial.

It is possible in a plea deal he could plead guilty in exchange for Life Without Parole.
But he would have to admit to the crime, give details, motivation, some acceptance of responsibility, etc.
Then there would be no trial, and yes he would go straight to prison.

Other than that, he is headed for trial and he can either take a plea deal or face the DP, or being found innocent.

It is unlikely he will get off, but he could take that gamble.

I believe he is covering that case.

Another good YouTuber covering Kohberger is Lawyer Lee.

I'm not very familiar with the Bryan Kohberger case though. I'm mainly obsessed with the Dan Markell murder trials of the Adleson family.

I love Surviving The Survivor and listen to it on a regular basis. I also very much enjoy Lawyer Lee. There are quite a few really good podcasts and YouTube channels.

The Adelson/Markel case is OMG........It's just unbelievable. I just think wtf happened in their lives that brought them to where they are....

I hope to personally attend some of Donna Adleson's trial in August.
And like everyone else, I hope Wendi is arrested next.

It's about famous people, especially musicians, who get into trouble with the law and do a lot of drinking, drugs, fighting, etc. The guy who tells the stories is really good and it's never boring.

Interesting. I haven't heard of it. The narrators on the shows are SO important!

--given the proximity--but the horror of those murders makes me extremely concerned about how much the defense is seemingly willing to blur all lines and pull out all stops to go after every possible angle. Granted, I do believe in rigorous defense, but the last I heard, they are trying to create mistrial territory because the media has covered it so much and occasionally picked up info, not previously reported in Discovery. Dateline has covered it in one episode (which I have not seen). I am very apprehensive and very much feeling the pain of the families. After all these delays, the trial is set for sometime in August.

There will no doubt be a LOT of podcasts and other media covering it--just as with the Laurie and Chad Daybell cases before. I just hope the prosecution is up to it in the Kohberger case.

As to any "love" of true crime--I admittedly find some of it fascinating. Tune In radio on MSNBC tends to be what I sleep to (yes, really), so on Saturdays and Sunday nights, it switches overnight to Dateline segments. Admittedly, I do listen as I am trying to wake up, and if interesting, I may Google to hear the details I missed. It does freak me out when they seemingly cover some horrible murders all too near me, but which I never heard about (decades or more ago).

Re: Kohberger case - that's exactly what's she's trying to do. But if she gets the DP off the table, does he then go straight to jail or what happens?

Thanks.

Like I mentioned, I think some of the parents don't want to take DP off the table so I agree that would be unlikely.

Springfield Three is one of my favorite cases. I doubt that it'll ever be solved, unless somebody tells who did it when they are on their deathbed.
