(10,532 posts)Especially Waterson's "Calvin and Hobbes". For me, these strips coincided with high school and college and I could not miss a day! My college roommate and best friend was a fellow Chicagolander in Bloomington, Indiana, but we NEVER missed a daily Chicago Tribune or the comics page. It was a shared experience before "sharing" meant hitting "Like" or "Thumbs Up" for the 1002nd time in a day...
We have lost so much in exchange for turning over EVERYTHING to the insidious devices in our hands and ruling our lives. In less than 20 years, the internet and antisocial media destroyed society and remade it into a gullible gathering of marks and targets. If there are future history books (that are not crafted by corporate owned AI), there is so much to learn. It really is the repeat of the fall of Rome into decadence and eventually into defeat and irrelevance. The coming second Dark Ages are going to be brutal and no one in power cares at all as long as they get to cash the checks now.
Pathetic does not begin to describe them...
