The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsI found proof today that God is real and that he/she loves me.
Early today I burned my man card and read the instructions on my new electric mower and
it worked and the mower started. Damn safety features. You had to extend and lock in the
the handles for it to start. Small miracle.
After visiting my mom and bringing her dinner I stopped @ the carry out* to get some
Riesling and the door to the cooler where my Riesling (Frisk) is stocked was already
open. Devine intervention without a doubt. This was a loafs and fishes kind of sign.

(1,980 posts)I would often tell my staff (and sometimes my internal customers) RTFM. Read The Fucking Manual.
Just to be clear. Always left it as an acronym. Have always believed that saying fuck out loud in a business setting was a bit over the top. But everyone knew what I was trying to say.
Burned my man card long ago.

(455 posts)Whenever they had a problem they'd asked me what to do. We had an AF regulation and an AF manual, both about an inch-and-a-two inches thick, which told us policy and what actions to take to do the job. Just about any question could be answered they they would just look it up. It was my fault because I was willing to answer they questions. I finally decided to change that. I told them to look it up, tell me the answer, and where they found the answer. It got to the point where they'd ask me a question and then say "I know, look it up and tell you." My point in doing this was to get them to read the regulation and the manual so when someone asked them a question they'd be able to answer it without my help. Also, it would aid them when it came time to take their career field test for promotion.

(5,905 posts)To go to school here. We went out and bought him a RTA futon. I told him he's going to have to know how to do things like putting it together, so please put it together. He couldn't figure it out and after an hour came to me and said he didn't know what to do. I asked him if he had followed the directions and he said he hadn't t looked at them. He said his Dad used to get so mad trying to follow the directions and said they were useless. Well, he looked at the directions and had the project done in a half an hour or so. I let him know that not all directions are alike, that sometimes there are bad directions but to always check them first.
I've used electric mowers for at least the last 15 years. I love them lightweight and quiet. I used to be the only one on the block, but I've noticed there are 3 more people using them now.

(34,857 posts)last year to mow the steep edges around my pond and love it. No more starting fluid, yanking a rope and cussing. What's not to like, other than the price of a backup battery? You wouldn't think a battery would cost so much.

(30,324 posts)But I just bought an EGO ground cleaning attachment that uses the same battery. Game changer.
