Friday Night Vodka Buzz. Ask me anything.

Two shots to get the party started. Now, a Perfect Manhattan. Bourbon, sweet vermouth, dry vermouth, and Angostura bitters. And two cherries.

Just like Nonno, the poet in Tennessee Williams’ “Night Of The Iguana”, “I say yum for one cherry, and yum again for the other.”

I love you all…

This was back when I was in the Army. Celebrating the end of a month-long field exercise with Mad Dog and Boone’s Farms, (and Pop-Tarts when we got hungry.)

I can’t believe I survived all of that without choking to death on my own vomit.

I couldn't ever drink into the hangover.
I needed at least 4 days before another drink and maybe not even then.

I was hanging out at a German bar that I had selected because it was not one of the ones American soldiers hung out in a lot. I speak German, so I managed to have a good time with a small crowd that kept getting larger the drunker we got. Hit it off with this German lady, and somehow, not wanting the evening to end, we all staggered back to her tiny apartment, and kept on drinking. One by one, the partiers called it quits, and went home, until it was just the two of us.

I only remember waking up the next morning, and doing what a lot of inconsiderate twenty-two year-old guys do: I got dressed as quietly as I could, left her apartment, and hit the local taxi stand for a ride back to the post. I sort of half-consciously made a note of where her apartment was located, and a couple of days later, feeling guilty, I went back, and knocked on her door to apologize.

"Oh, hi! I was hoping you it was you. Did you get home all right the other day?"

We ended up having a relationship for the next few months, until I got deployed to the Gulf. When I got back, she had moved on.

I love how you went back to apologize. It says a lot about you. I am glad you had a relationship for a while. It goes to show that not all drunk encounters turn out badly.
Cheers to you!

I don't have a lot of OMG what-the-hell stories to tell. Sorry to disappoint you. I'm not the hellraiser a lot of my fellow tankers were. On the plus side, I never saw the inside of the stockade, or had an uncomfortable conversation with a JAG defense lawyer, the way a few guys I knew did.

Usually, though, when someone tells drunk-as-fuk stories they are pretty scary. Yours didn't land you in the drunk tank or "the inside of the stockade" or worse. Your story showed you didn't turn into a fiend. You obviously have good character even while drunk.

I wait until I’m home, and all alone. I won’t embarrass myself or hurt anyone else. Then I watch “Blade Runner”, “Dark City”, and “Excalibur”.

Very cathartic…

I mean a bar on a boat, seemed like a good idea when I started. Let me tell you, there is some chop out on Lake Erie.

He had what was likely the standard-issue rain poncho of his time. It had a built-in hat/brim visor attached to the hood. I wonder when they got rid of that? The rain poncho I was issued in Basic Training in 1986 didn't have it.

Here is humorous story my friend was with 75th regiment 1985. They were issued Gore tex for cold weather training then it was brand new not issue. So when they came back they turned it all in and sent it back so manufacturer could see how it held up.

Have a nice Memorial Day friend I’m on flag detail i have two troopers one Korean War the other Vietnam neither lived to see their twenties.

It’s just what we do quietly out of respect.
