The Theology of War, Again

Karen Elizabeth Park:
Over the past six months, I have been writing frequently (too frequently) about precisely this fusion of Christianity and militarism in the Trump era. My focus is on the theological structure that underwrites it. The issue is not only that religious language is present in political discourse. It is that violence itself is being framed in ways that invite reverence and identification because they are God’s will.

Tonight, I am resurfacing three of my earlier essays that trace different dimensions of this emerging theology of war in the hopes that they might provide some additional insights into our current moment. Please check them out if you haven’t—or feel free revisit them even if you have.
