CHISAGO COUNTY, Minn. — Chisago County accused Teamsters Local 320 of an unfair labor practice after about 170 unionized employees went on strike Friday.

County Administrator Chase Burnham shared a statement Monday, saying the county "respects the right of employees to engage in lawful strike activity."

On April 30, the county filed an unfair labor practice claim against the union for refusing to meet and negotiate. Burnham wrote that union leadership introduced an additional demand related to health insurance on the last day of the cooling-off period, which gave county leadership limited time to address it before the strike began.

Teamsters Local 320 said employees are striking due to "deteriorating workplace conditions, the County’s failure to meaningfully address employee complaints, as well as continued grievance and arbitration disputes."
