Ezra Levin, co-founder of Indivisible, said on Saturday that a nationwide general strike is being planned for May 1 that will be modeled on the day of action residents of Minnesota organized in January against the brutality carried out by federal immigration enforcement officials.
Appearing at the flagship No Kings rally in Minneapolis, Levin praised the strength shown by the Minnesota protesters in the face of the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) siege of their city this year, and said his organization wanted to replicate it across the country.
The next major national action of this movement is not just going to be another protest, Levin said. It is a tactical escalation... It is an economic show of force, inspired by Minnesotas own day of truth and action.
Levin then outlined what the event would entail. On May 1, on May Day, we are saying, No business as usual, he said. No work, no school, no shopping. Were going to show up and say were putting workers over billionaires and kings.

(2,667 posts)... for those supporting the billionaires to figure out how to stop doing so on May 1st (or sooner should one be so inclined).
Cancel that Amazon membership, quit Facebook, delete the Xitter account, stop shopping at Walmart... the list goes on.
Too "inconvenient?" Money talks.

We don't seem to be willing to be 'slightly interrupted'.

(1,748 posts)While listening to the speakers at the protest/march in Ann Arbor talk about how WE drive the American economy, I was like, we need a national strike. No one spends a dime, and no workers show up to their shifts. I know it may be tough for some to consider, but isnt the other option worse? I must say that while the gathering was moving, I couldnt help but to feel sad, and even slightly fearful that we are at this point. When that POS shot those folks in La Crosse a few years ago, I wondered if they were the first shots of a civil war. I havent been convinced otherwise yet. Hard to believe. Stay strong America! Together we stand! Well, you know the rest. I prefer the former. Which makes me remember what the fella running for mayor was saying. I dont want to go BACK to how it was. That was still not great. We need to go FORWARD! Health care for all, no homelessness, no starvation, no fear of leaving your house. We were far from ideal, we can and should be better! Fuck the oligarchs currently running roughshod over us! Stand proud, and stand strong. Our Republic demands it! ☮️❤️✊🏻
