Iran Reportedly Chooses New Supreme Leader With Familiar Name
Source: Mediaite
The Islamic Republic of Iran has reportedly chosen its new supreme leader.
According to Iran International, a Persian-language outlet based out of London, Mojtaba Khamenei, the son of late supreme leader Ali Khamenei, was been selected for the role by the regimes Assembly of Experts under pressure from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps on Tuesday.
Khameneis father perished in the initial wave of American and Israeli strikes on Iranian targets over the weekend. He had ruled the country with an iron fist since 1989, establishing a reputation for himself as one of the worlds most brutal dictators and his country as the worlds foremost state sponsor of terrorism.
CNN had previously reported that the younger Khamenei is known to wield significant influence behind the scenes and has strong links with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), the most powerful military body in the country, as well as its Basij volunteer paramilitary force.

(1,542 posts)I still havent got the faintest idea what the end goal is here
is it to destroy and completely overturn the Islamic revolution? Good luck, those zealots have completely entrenched themselves into every aspect of society.
Anyone thinking we can declare victory and leave now is delusional. Because all of this will repeat again. There is no way the son of the assassinated ayatollah is going to give in. This is only going to get worse.
Netanyahu and Trump have no idea what theyve got all of us into. Its great for Israel, as long as they get attacked they get our tax $$$. Nice to have another country subsidize your society, including universal healthcare.

(8,898 posts)"We haven't "freed" anyone. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard is still very much in control of Iran. And it looks like they intend to make Khamenei's son -- a man whose father, wife, son, sister and brother-in-law in Trump's attack. How amenable to American interests do you suppose he'll be?"

I guess Trump never heard of law of unintended consequences.
As has been mentioned before, there is no pro-USA leader in Iran to feel the void.
