California must let immigrant truck drivers keep their licenses, judge rules

More than 20,000 immigrant truck drivers will be able to keep their licenses in California, at least temporarily, despite efforts by the Trump administration and the state of California to revoke them, according to a tentative ruling Wednesday in Alameda County Superior Court.

The decision puts the state of California in a bind. The U.S. Department of Transportation already has repeatedly pushed the California Department of Motor Vehicles to rescind these licenses, which belong to many asylum seekers and other immigrants with temporary legal status, after the federal government found alleged clerical issues regarding the expiration dates on their licenses. The California DMV complied with the transportation department’s demands and sent letters to more than 20,000 drivers last fall, telling them that their California licenses would expire in the next 60 days .

But after a law firm and two legal advocacy groups, the Asian Law Caucus and the Sikh Coalition, sued on behalf of truckers, saying that the state didn’t follow the proper process for rescinding their licenses, the state extended the expiration dates to March 6. The transportation department said in January that it will withhold $160 million in federal highway funds from California as punishment for extending the expiration dates.

While immigrant drivers in the courtroom celebrated today’s tentative decision, attorneys for the state of California said the judge’s ruling could hurt many more people. The Trump administration has threatened to rescind California’s ability to grant commercial licenses altogether if the state doesn’t comply with its orders regarding immigrant truckers.

I lost my mom to some shameless rot in 2021 and there were definitely both Indian and American factors. I am going to file allegations of misconduct and malpractice (doesn’t pertain to my 3 labs or scientists I knew prior to 2013, my doctors for the most part with a few exceptions in psychiatry)


That was about complex systems not trucks. But stupidity, self absorbed, solipsistic, narcissistic shit out of California is what needs stringent regulation. I am filing complaints. I lost 14 years and my mom.

It is sleazy collective bargaining and a corporate race to the bottom, both things the California Ideology backs and it is full of theft and bullying.

I am formally putting criminal liability for ceos and lobbying that affected my mom and I. I have been so disgusted by what I have seen in Kerala, India in the last 4 years as I was mourning my mom.

3. The persecution thing is bs in many of these cases. These are organized scam groups

that use these things to benefit from the system in any way they can.

As an example just look at how these groups supporting this scum driver was trying to get the Indian Govt to help him . They claim persecution but then are trying to get the govt they claim is persecuting them to help him with the charges he is facing in the US .

I am Indian and I know the persecution thing is bs in cases like these. The original conflict with Sikhs was under Indira Gandhi’s govt first of all and the Congress. I was a child, but vaguely even remember it. I saw her get shot on tv.

And it can be used to bully people who see these large things as genuinely too error prone to scale up. They are not even functioning and some casualties have already occurred. It reminds me of Theranos as well.

It is like an effect altruist’s grotesque 3-Trolley bs and bs optimization. 3 people versus 3 million..that is a grotesque way of thinking. That is not how humans think. And you cannot translate how a fish thinks to humans. No biologists would think that way. No complexity scientist would, but these guys ComplexityGPT might…

I am hoping the Indian Govt at least supports me over this type of private sector that offers nothing anyone wants and sets off more scams.

We should not from the left concede attacks on stupidity to the right. This is not Charles Murray’s racist bullshit (which is bad science) about IQ. This is something different and apparently actively and assiduously encouraged and fostered by now.

I am anti-ai to the extent that I am against purely scammy things that are far worse than any human and deployed widely with scant to no serious human oversight.

I am not precisely socialist or any ist. I like all the small businesses I support - they have goods or services I actually use and the web runs on advertising. But again..limits, common sense not “hey now this trended for 55 ..let’s do that! No wait..that trended for 10s..”

There has to be balance, homeostasis, regulation, limits to growths as that is how systems should be, not accelerating away to chaos as everyone pursues self interest and not even well..
Rational self interest is not even feasible without adequate transparency and sanity.

A lot of the issue is excessive civility from genuinely elite people who are both adequately buffered against this juggernaut of brainlessness and well..one can get confused and overthink when looking at something that looks atrocious but where you cannot precisely tell..
