Trump Calls for Revocation of Bombardier Type Certificates

Source: Aviation International News

President Donald Trump on Thursday announced that the U.S. is revoking type certificates of all “Bombardier Global Expresses and all Aircraft made in Canada” until Gulfstream “is fully certified” by Transport Canada. Further, he has threatened 50% tariffs on any aircraft produced in Canada and sold in the U.S. if the situation is not “immediately corrected.”

In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump claimed that Canada has steadfastly refused to certify the Gulfstream G500, G600, G700, and G800. “Canada is effectively prohibiting the sale of Gulfstream products in Canada through this very same process.”

In response, Bombardier said it has taken note of the post and is in contact with the Canadian government. “Thousands of private and civilian jets built in Canada fly in the U.S. every day,” the Montreal-based airframer said. “We hope this is quickly resolved to avoid a significant impact on air traffic and the flying public.”

Bombardier further pointed out that it employs more than 3,000 people in the U.S. across nine major facilities and has created thousands more jobs through 2,800 suppliers. “Our aircraft, facilities, and technicians are fully certified to FAA standards and renowned around the world. We are actively investing in expanding our U.S. operations, including a recent announcement in Fort Wayne, Indiana,” the company added.

Always has been. Never allow your "enemy," and Trump sees anyone not acquiescing to his demands as his "enemy," to take a breath.
Attack, attack, attack. It's all he knows and it's been adopted by the entire by the entire republican party.

if Trump succeeds in decertification of Canadian built aircraft. CRJs are heavily used on regional and short haul airline routes.

Next he has to explain to the airlines and shareholders why the stock tanked!
Most regional jets are Canadian. CRJ?
I also "sold paper" to the FAA inspector while we were building the first DC-9 Series 80.
Every period, comma and line item is scrutinized.
Chump has no clue. I doubt he even knows business.

And the only public statement so far from Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy is a repost of Trump's post, with three emojis: a U.S. flag between two airplanes.

There is a potential issue with de-icing and ice contaminating the fuel. Just a little problem, eh?

But Trump thinks he knows better than all the experts and lives come secondary to power and profit for him.

I really think he is trying to break Canada. Now we know he's been canoodling with our loco but dangerous Albertan separatists.

Question 1: Is there a sufficient reason for non-certification by Canada?

Or is Canada just saying, "Eh, we're on break and we'll get to it when we want"?

Or saying, "We don't want Yank metal in our protected airspace because we don't like the Trump"?

Or, worse, "If we let them in, they'll be a competitor with our nationalist-approved home-produced planes"?

Because then it's one Trumpanity countering a Trumpanity.

Transport Canada has a requirement that all turbine-engine aircraft being operated in Canada meet standards for fuel icing, and the certification test requires flying the airplane into a specific temperature range. On the two Gulfstreams in question, the test hasn't been done. And the Canadians don't go with "our airplane has a Parker Meggitt fuel-oil heat exchanger with this model number, and you certified three other jets with this specific FOHE so you need to sign off on ours too." They want to know how that FOHE works on this specific aircraft.
