Trump says US will do something on Greenland 'whether they like it or not'

President Donald Trump on Friday continued to press for U.S. control of Greenland, telling reporters: "We are going to do something on Greenland whether they like it or not." "Because if we don't do it, Russia or China will take over Greenland, and we're not going to have Russia or China as a neighbor," Trump said as he hosted oil executives at the White House to discuss investments in Venezuela.
The president has repeatedly said he wants to take over Greenland either by buying the autonomous island territory or by using military force, calling it a matter of national security despite fierce pushback from Greenland, Denmark and European allies. US military is 'always an option' for Trump to acquire Greenland, White House official says
"Greenland is not for sale. I think our Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen and our Foreign Minister Vivian Motzfeldt has made it very, very clear. Our country belongs to the Greenlandic people," Jacob Isbosethsen, Greenlands head of representation to the United States, said to journalists on Thursday after a closed-door meeting with members of Congress.
When asked on Friday for how much money he believed it would take to get Greenland on board with his proposal, Trump said, "I'm not talking about money for Greenland yet. I might talk about that." "I would like to make a deal, you know, the easy way. But if we don't do it the easy way, we're going to do it the hard way," Trump said.

(3,422 posts)... is malicious belligerence when faced with defiance of his grotesquely illegal machinations. He's already stated publicly that mere laws cannot restrain him; only his own "morality", which is nonexistent, can guide his actions. Not a comforting thought.
There already exist multiple agreements with generous allowances for expanding the bases of American forces presently in Greenland, so his obsession with taking Greenland by force is just another example of his malevolent vindictiveness. He cannot even grasp the concept of self-control, let alone actually exercising such a behavior so utterly foreign to his pathologically selfish nature. If it thwarts his perverted desires even momentarily, he lashes out with threats of violence.
To say that Russia, or even more ridiculously, China, would take over Greenland, is juvenile bullshit. Both countries are in the throes of economic collapse because of the Trump-like greed of their leaders, so they already have looming existential problems that preclude the staggering cost of such expansionism.
Republicans, you own this psychotic Frankenstein, and when he goes down which he most assuredly will he'll take the GOP down with him, and you'll deserve the undying shame that will come with your treacherous perfidy. You are already branded as traitors. Forever. So it's game over for you assholes.
Justice matters.
(9,413 posts)muskrat told him his robber-baron clique needs to plunder the rare-earth minerals under the ice sheet for their unconstitutional data centers and that if he doesn't deliver them by purchasing it, he has to send troops to take it by force.
It's as clear as that. China exploits already like 4/5 of the world's rare-earth minerals so, do the math.

(3,422 posts)... "China exports 4/5 of the world's rare-earth minerals..." I know, auto-correct can be a pain in the ass sometimes. I frequently have to correct auto-correct while muttering obscenities.
What President Swiss-Cheese-For-Brains doesn't seem able to grasp is that all those minerals if they're even there are under a mile of ice. So, good luck getting at them.
Sweet Jesus on a pogo stick, I hate that fucking imbecile. He's bound and determined to get us into WWIII.

(28,626 posts)One of the first things they should do is rein in trump's ambition to take over other countries, militarily or by theft. He doesn't spew crap like this unless he and Miller are already planning it.
NATO should already be issuing warnings of what THEY will do if he makes good on his threats.
"NATOs Article 5 is consistent with Article 51 of the United Nations Charter, which recognises that a state that is the victim of an armed attack has the inherent right to individual or collective self-defence, and may request others to come to its assistance. Within the NATO context, Article 5 translates this right of self-defence into a mutual assistance obligation." (emphasis mine.)

(8 posts)He just told reporters that he will "do something" about Greenland, "whether they like it or not." After the disaster in Venezuela, he is now openly threatening to annex an autonomous region of Denmark, one of our oldest NATO allies.
His excuse? He claims that China and Russia are "taking over," even though Denmark has already dismissed this as absurd. The Danish Prime Minister says this could be the end of NATO, and he's right. How can an alliance exist when the US leader threatens to invade a member state because he wants its minerals? We've officially gone from "America First" to "Global Bully America."

(8,887 posts)if hundreds of US soldiers are injured or killed by an illegal and immoral invasion on an sovereign alley country ? Better yet will the military obey such a clearly illegal order. Might be prudent for Greenland to deport the soldiers from Greenland's US bases.
