Republicans on Capitol Hill are expressing skepticism over Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noems handling of the Trump administrations response to an Immigration Customs and Enforcement (ICE) officer fatally shooting a woman Noem has said was committing an act of domestic terrorism.
...................
It was very unusual to have a senior law enforcement official to draw a conclusion about an event where the scene was still being processed, Sen. Thom Tillis (R-N.C.), a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, said of Noems conclusion that the shooting was in response to a domestic terrorism incident.
.............
Other senior Trump administration officials, notably border czar Tom Homan, have had a more measured response to the shooting stopping well short of labeling Renee Nicole Macklin Goods actions domestic terrorism.
Homan said he wanted the investigation play out before drawing conclusions.
That didnt happen, he added. Either Secretary Noem has a lot of information that she will share with us in the coming days that formed a basis for advising the president, or she communicated too soon.

(3,789 posts)should impeach noem but seems like some of them think it is ok to shoot an innocent person and walk away AND then dehumanize them. This should scare the shit out of congress as to their terror raids.

(7,964 posts)Whenever there was a case where both Federal and State laws may have been broken, both jurisdictions investigate, and the jurisdiction with the more serious charges proceeds to trial. Only if the case fails to get a conviction does the other jurisdiction file charges. So, why is Noem not following standard practices here? It seems more like she is obstructing justice, which is a serious criminal charge in its own right.
