Key Points
* A social media post by President Donald Trump on Thursday included jobs data matching figures released Friday by the BLS.
* The White House Council of Economic Advisers has early access to BLS jobs figures, which are market-sensitive.
* Trump previously posted about jobs numbers before their official release in June 2018, without providing specific figures.
President Donald Trump appeared to share data from a market-sensitive jobs report on Thursday, the day before its public release.
A post on Trump's Truth Social account gave a figure for jobs creation under his second term that matched jobs figures that weren't released until Friday morning by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Trump's post Thursday appeared to be a photograph of a printout, which was labeled "Council of Economic Advisers." The post showed a bar chart indicating that 654,000 private sector jobs were created since January 2025, while 181,000 government jobs had been lost.
Those figures match the jobs numbers released by the BLS on Friday, including revisions.

This is some of the most closely held data because anyone with any functioning braincells knows that it moves markets. The efforts that are normally gone through to make sure it is kept secret are legendary.

And Trump just tweeted it out. Absolutely insane.

A) â¦market-moving information. And, in fact, it appears there was action on Polymarket around the time of this post
B) â¦another attack on the (still reliable) work of the professionals at BLS.
C) â¦yet another example of him not believing the rules apply to him, and getting away w it

President Donald Trump in a social media post Thursday evening indirectly revealed data from Fridays market-moving nonfarm payrolls count, an apparent violation of long-standing federal policy.
Office of Management and Budget policy prohibits executive branch officials from commenting on such releases early and in fact forbids public statements until 30 minutes after the release.
President Donald Trump in a social media post Thursday evening indirectly revealed data from Fridays market-moving nonfarm payrolls count, an apparent violation of long-standing federal policy on statistical releases.
In a Truth Social post around 9 p.m., the president indicated that private sector payrolls had expanded by 654,000 for the full year of 2025, a total that would have included Fridays jobs count for December.
Office of Management and Budget policy prohibits executive branch officials from commenting on such releases early and in fact forbids public statements until 30 minutes after the release. ... CNBC has reached out to the White House for comment. Presidents can be briefed on official jobs figures ahead of the release.
The Trump post drew a distinction between private and government job growth, with the latter down 181,000 for 2025.
